Description

Are there clergy & church staff who have not been stretched the last two years? Do clergy & church staff exist who are not facing unprecedented challenges and addressing new questions? On the one hand, we are so amazed at the resilience and adaptability demonstrated by church leaders, rising the occasion. On the other hand, we see the decision fatigue, searching for new skills, and questioning effectiveness. It looks like we could all use a Leadership ReFRESH.

To that end, Pinnacle Leadership Associates is pleased to offer The Leadership ReFRESH. Building on previous versions of this experience, Pinnacle has upfitted the content, focusing on effective leadership in our current context.

The Leadership ReFRESH is no ordinary vocational development experience. This is a deep dive into increased leadership self-awareness through inventories and guided activities, followed by the creation of an informed and directed Leadership Growth Plan. Participants will emerge from this retreat with a plan for ongoing growth in leadership skill and competency, along with renewed spirits. Participants are able to engage in post-retreat group or individual coaching focused on implementing their Leadership Growth Plan.

This retreat and follow-up coaching experience is designed for Clergy & Church Staff who

  • Are ready to strengthen their leadership for guiding their churches toward growth during volatile and fluid circumstances

  • Are ready to ReFRESH, strengthening their souls

  • Are facing new challenges, requiring next level leadership

  • Are experienced leaders, tired of leading the same old way

  • Are newer leaders, motivated toward excellence

  • Are keenly aware of the heightened need for leadership competency in this current situation

Retreat Flow

The Leadership ReFRESH Retreat includes 5 content modules using the following flow

  • Spiritual Centering - Scripture, prayer, and devotional moments

  • Interactive Presention - An interactive presentation in a content area

  • Debriefing Group - Participants are in a group with the same people throughout the retreat, debriefing each presentation, making connections to their personal leadership journeys

Retreat Content

Prerequisite - Peoplemap Personality Questionnaire. Those who do not know their Peoplemap Type are mailed a Questionnaire before the retreat, identifying their Peoplemap Type. This learning is integrated into the retreat.

Module 1 - Leading Post-Traumatic Congregational Growth - Wednesday, 3:00-5:00
Given our current situation, what are the key comptencies we need in church leadership in order to thrive? Participants enter this retreat experience through this informative and inspirational presentation on the Why and What for effective congregational leadership. Debriefing groups provide an opportunity for processing the learning and insights.
Mark Tidsworth, Pinnacle Team Leader, Presenter and Facilitator

Module 2 - Social-Emotional Intelligence - Wednesday, 6:00-8:00
Before the retreat, participants do the Social-Emotional Intelligence Inventory online, receiving their results at the retreat. Effective leaders in our current situation are competent in reading people dynamics along with their influence in congregational life. Debriefing groups after this learning experience allow participants to begin connecting and strengthening their Social-Emotional Intelligence right away.
Ircel Harrison, Pinnacle Coaching Coordinator, Presenter and Facilitator

Module 3 - Enneagram - Thursday, 8:45-12:00
Before the retreat, participants receive brief descriptions of the nine Enneagram Types to tentatively determine their type (or as a refresher). This module identifies the role personality plays in leadership effectiveness. Participants review the basic characteristics of Nine Enneagram personality types, both the gifts and the challenges. Participants receive information and specific tools for improving overall effectiveness in leadership roles using the time-tested wisdom of the Enneagram. Debriefing groups after this learning experience allows participants to process the learning and insights. Marla Fuller, Enneagram Trainer, Presenter and Facilitator

Module 4 - Re-creation Time - Thursday, 12:00-5:00
Breathe, rest, renew, play, hike, shop, nap, talk….Whatever is re-creating for you, this is your time. Lutheridge is such a pleasant campus in such a wonderful place (Asheville and Pisgah National Forest). Enjoy!

Module 5 - Peoplemap Conflict Resolution Questionnaire - Thursday, 6:00-8:00
Participants do this Questionnaire at the beginning of this Module, identifying their natural conflict resolution styles. Everyone recognizes that congregational conflict is inevitable now that everything is shifting. Effective leaders are able to prevent, minimize, or resolve conflict in helpful ways. This module raises awareness about one's tendencies, while introducing new skills for strengthening competencies. Debriefing groups provide a way to begin connecting one's Conflict Resolution Style to one's leadership and ministry right away.
Mark Tidsworth, Pinnacle Team Leader, Presenter and Facilitator

Module 6 - Creating The Leadership Growth Plan - Friday, 8:45-12:00
Using Pinnacle's template, participants bring together their inventory results, plus additional insights into a plan for strengthening their leadership. Each leader's current ministry situation is an additional influence toward an effective plan. Debriefing groups allow participants to discuss their plan with others who have journeyed with them during this retreat, receiving real time feedback toward strengthening their Leadership Growth Plans.

After each evening session, participants are invited to informal social time with snacks. This retreat concludes with lunch on Friday.
